Pratt Family Homestead

Mike and Jeni Pratt packed up from the city 4 years ago after buying a 10-acre farm in Southern Michigan. With little experience in gardening and no experience in animal husbandry, they and their four children jumped right into homesteading, not even knowing such a thing existed.

In the last 3 years of homesteading, they’ve experimented with gardening, canning, dehydrating, fermenting, meat production, fruit, and even bees. They currently have goats, ducks, chickens, a horse, a rabbit, and two dogs. In the past, they’ve also raised sheep, and currently raise pigs yearly for meat with the hopes of one day becoming breeders. They also decided to give homeschooling a try for the 2017-2018 school year.

Mike was born in Alaska and raised there until he moved out at 18. Following that he joined the U.S. Army, where he served for 8 years. Jeni was born in Kentucky and a few years later her family moved to MIchigan, where Mike and Jeni met in 2006. They have been married 11 years this June!
