Daniel Salatin is the son of Joel Salatin, innovative farmer, writer and speaker. As the third generation on Polyface farm in Swoope Virginia, he has grown up in the family business.
Starting out helping with chicken harvest in diapers, then moving onto his own rabbit business at 8 years old, to currently being the day to day operations manager of the farm. Polyface has grown from just a dream to now farming over 1,500 acres raising and marketing: Salad Bar Beef, Pastured layers, turkeys and meat birds, Pigaerator pork, and many other complimentary animals and products though on farm sales, restaurant, retail and neighborhood deliveries, as well as nation wide shipping.
Growing up in the pastured/regenerative farming life Daniel has witnessed first hand how these practices can and have changed landscape.
Developing new farms and overseeing livestock operations is just part of his role. A large part of his farming life is spent leading, teaching and mentoring new farmers though Polyface’s Stewardship (Intern) program that has well over 175 “graduates.” This is one of his true passions- seeing these young farmers (some not so young!) learn and master new skills in the farm setting. He lives on the farm in VA with his wife of over 18 years Sheri and their three kids, Travis, Andrew and Lauryn.
