Camping for upcoming HOA conference in October?
I just got a crazy idea today and I wondered if anyone else had the same thought, or if anyone even thought that it was a good idea...
My family and I live and homestead on 20 acres in northwestern Virginia, about 40 minutes from the Warren County Fairgrounds, which is the event venue for the HOA conference. We have a large family, and I know that if I were traveling a long distance to go to this shindig that the cost of accommodations would be a concern. What if homesteaders local to the area, if they have the room and the opportunity, opened up their land as temporary campgrounds.
Good idea...bad idea?

Mary, I think that is a fantastic idea! There were a number of people who came to the Tennessee conference this past weekend who stayed in campgrounds. I could tell they spent every dime to get here and I would have gladly let them camp on my property if I had known ahead of time. I don't know if I will be at the October Homesteading conference in Virginia, but if I do come, I would love to know of options like you are mentioning! 🙂
I just live in Winchester but when I checked available fairground parking it had already been SOLD OUT.
I would be interested in staying much closer than Winchester in my Class A Motorhome.
@hughes Hey there! You might try UpClose RV, who is a conference sponsor. They have a website dedicated to this exact thing. Linking property owners to travelers, and travelers to property owners.
Otherwise, I dont know many people in the area that open their farms up. But if we hear something we'll let you know!

We are in Zepp, VA, and according to maps, we are 41 minutes away from the Warren County Fairgrounds. Winchester is around 25 minutes. I'm not sure where in Winchester you would be coming from, but you are probably closer (as the crow flies) than we are.
